Children's Summer Reading Club

Starting June 2, register and participate online, at hptx.beanstack.org, for the 2020 Children’s Summer Reading Club. 

  • Programs are available for ages 0 - 5 and readers in 1st - 6th grades. 
  • Earn points, badges, and virtual certificates by logging minutes read, activities completed, and virtual events attended.
  • Complete the program and Library staff will choose a book to donate in your name to The Warren Center, a nonprofit agency that advocates, serves, and empowers children and families impacted by developmental delays and disabilities.

You may also download and print a Summer Reading Log at home to keep track of your summer reading activities. There is a log for ages 0 - 5, and one for grades 1st - 6th. Then record your reading, activity, and virtual event points online at hptx.beanstack.org to earn virtual badges and certificates!

The University Park Public Library and the Highland Park Library are joining together to bring families and children a summer of exciting virtual events and workshops.  

Earn 25 points towards your reading goal for each virtual event you attend.

June Virtual Events


  • June 3, 3:00 p.m. - James Wand Magic Show. Join James Wand for his virtual Secret Agent Magic Show. Get ready for an exciting and hilarious adventure of magic and mystery, and help James Wand solve clues and secret codes.  

    • On June 3, the Library will send out a link to the show to email subscribers. Please feel free to share the link with family and friends. Please email lcollins@hplibrary.info to be added as an email subscriber.            
    • Download and print the James Wand Booklet for the show.
  • June 10, 3:00 p.m. - Mad Science, Tell Tale Science. Bring fairy tales and science to life in this pre-recorded presentation of "Tell-Tale Science."

  • June 17, 3:00 p.m. - Creature Teacher, "Zoom the Zoo."  Make some new animal friends while you have fun learning about them in this live Zoom presentation.

    • Please email lcollins@hplibrary.info by Tuesday, June 16 to register and receive the meeting code and password. This program is limited to 100 Zoom participants. 
  • June 24, 3:00 p.m. - Grace Hula Show. Learn the fun and fast-paced style of hula dancing from the pros in this live Zoom presentation.

July Virtual Events

  • July 8, 3:00 p.m. - Critterman Show, Rainforest Jewels. Discover unusual and familiar rainforest dwellers. 
  • July 15, 3:00 p.m. - Legendary Black Belt Academy.  Join us for a Kung Fu demonstration. (Zoom platform)
  • July 22, 3:00 p.m. - Circus Freaks Juggling Workshop. Learn to juggle with these basic steps.
  • July 29, 3:00 p.m. - Perot Museum’s TECH Truck.  Learn about robotics through a hands-on activity with staff from Perot Museum’s TECH Truck. (Zoom platform)
