Saturday, July 30, 2022
Renowned SMU paleontologist, Louis Jacobs, brings ancient seas to life.
Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 a.m.
Ages 18 and Up
After the South Atlantic Ocean basin formed 120 million years ago, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and sea turtles moved in and thrived along Africa’s southwest coast. Project PaleoAngola scientists have uncovered the fossils of these real-life sea monsters, shedding light on this period in Earth’s history—and on ocean ecosystems today. SMU Professor Emeritus of Earth Sciences, Louis Jacobs, discusses this work, exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and how their multinational team of scientists has advanced our understanding of Angola’s rich fossil history.
Registration opens Thursday, June 16. Seating is limited.
