[ARCHIVED] Online Series for Caring for Antiques and Heirlooms

Old photos and papers

Families hold on to many mementos, collectibles, antiques, photographs, or other items that carry special meaning or value. Caring for these items can seem daunting or even downright confusing. Where do you get supplies needed for storing old photographs and letters? Is it okay to put things in the attic or garage in a sealed container? Why does this old film smell like vinegar? How do I make sure my heirlooms are preserved for the next generation?

The HP Library’s Adult Services Librarian, Holly Russell, has twenty years of museum collection care experience; and she has taught many classes about this very topic. Consider registering for her four class series that will cover archives, textiles, art, and other objects. Attend one, or attend all, but come prepared with questions to ask.  Each session will include handouts and resources for you to print and keep for your reference.

WHEN: Wednesdays in August at 3:00 p.m.
August 5 - Caring for Art
August 12 - Caring for Textiles
August 19 - Caring for Archives
August 26 - Caring for Other Objects

WHERE: Online - We will be using GoToMeeting for the presentations. Once registered to attend, you will receive an email with the link and password for attending each of the program sessions you registered for.

HOW: Register for each session of the program by emailing Holly Russell, Adult Services Librarian.  Even if you are unable to attend at any time, please register so that a link to the recording may be sent to you afterward. For security reasons, please do not share registration login information. All participants must register to attend.

WHO: Participation is limited to the first 25 registrants for each session. Everyone is encouraged to register, as a link to the recording will be sent out to all who registered after each program as concluded, whether they attended the live program or not.
