This year the University Park Public Library (UPPL) and the Highland Park Library (HPL) teamed up to donate books to Reading Partners as part of the libraries’ respective Summer Reading Clubs. When children completed their summer reading logs, they picked out a book to donate in their name to Reading Partners. On Friday, September 23, library staff from both libraries visited Reading Partners and delivered over 200 donated books.
Reading Partners empowers students to succeed in reading and in life by recruiting and training community volunteers to provide 1:1 literacy tutoring. A national educational nonprofit organization, it works with under-resourced elementary schools to support students who are reading below grade level. Reading Partners is an essential tool that can help students who struggle with reading unlock and develop the foundational skills they need to succeed.
The books donated through the Summer Reading Clubs will help to grow the Reading Partners’s library available to volunteers and students. This library provides them with a variety of books to reinforce the lessons learned during weekly reading sessions. Reading Partners helps students become strong, confident readers with a passion for learning.
