Thunder and Lightning
At the first sign of thunder or lightning, all pool activities will be immediately suspended. The pool must remain cleared for at least 30 minutes following the most recent lightning strike within a 10-mile radius. During this time, patrons will not be allowed near water fixtures (e.g., showers), gas lines, or any exposed wiring due to the risk of electrical conduction.
If conditions do not improve within 45 minutes, the pool may close for the remainder of the day. The on-duty Pool Manager will make this determination, with all decisions made at the sole discretion of pool personnel.
Wind
Strong or gusty winds that compromise visibility, specifically when the main drains in the deep end are no longer visible from the deck, may result in temporary closure of the swimming area. If conditions persist beyond 45 minutes, the pool may close for the day. The on-duty Pool Manager will make this determination, with all decisions made at the sole discretion of pool personnel.
In cases of moderate gusts, lifeguards may temporarily clear the pool to safely secure umbrellas, chairs, and other outdoor furnishings.
Rain
Heavy rainfall that obstructs underwater visibility, particularly when the main drains cannot be clearly seen from the deck, will prompt a temporary closure. Should conditions remain unsafe after 45 minutes, the pool may close for the day. The on-duty Pool Manager will reassess conditions and determine if reopening is possible.
Pool and Air Temperatures
The pool will open for lap swim if the air temperature is forecasted to reach at least 56°F by opening time. If temperatures fall short, staff will monitor conditions to determine if a delayed opening is possible.
The pool may close early if temperatures are expected to drop and remain below 56°F. Full closure will occur when the outdoor air temperature is below 55°F and the water temperature falls under 78°F.
